Every year, I invite some of my kids’ friends for an Easter Hunt in our place. I absolutely love having my friends around and using some creativity to make it fun and memorable for the kids. So here are some of the Easter Egg Hunt ideas and some Creative Easter Activities that I have used in the past years and some that I’m going to do this year. I’d like to point out that we are not religious, so these are ideas for pagan celebrations. Click here to see the full list all suggestions below Easter Egg Hunt ideas I’ll start with the thing we all love the most, the Easter Egg Hunts. Our rules for our Easter Egg Hunts I have some rules for our Easter Egg Hunts. Smaller kids alternative game When my eldest was 2, I did an egg hunt that was a little bit different from the usual. We had a good collection of colourful plastic toys (thing MEGA Blocks, wooden blocks, plastic toys, etc) so I had more of an Easter Activity than an Egg Hunt per say. I got a pack of Easter Eggs that contained little puzzles inside, I put everything inside a […]

]]>When I wrote last year’s DIY Advent Calendar ideas for kids, it was a very last-minute post, way too close to Christmas for me to be able to do something properly put together (making use of my vast “collection” of Christmas craft stuff). Apart from selecting a new Christmas story to read every night from the lovely collection I put together from charity shops (which you can find here on my Amazon UK storefront), I didn’t manage to create any other of my ideas but I’ll do my best to create something this year! Even though yet again I’m doing it last minute. I love the idea of a DIY advent calendar and I was very hopeful that this year will be THE year I will create one. And I am doing one, but it’s not very Instagram worthy but the kids are loving the joy of getting a little surprise present every day, even if it’s a bit disorganised. If you get to this post because you’re looking for an idea (you might want to do something special for your kids) I’m here for you and I hope one of my ideas will help you! And here’s the best […]

]]>I loved putting this post about advent calendars for kids together last year and finding a good calendar to share with my kids every year has been a very fun task. I love spreading the joy of Christmas through the whole month and they love having a new toy to discover every day. I have also created a post with DIY Advent Calendar ideas that is timeless so despite it saying 2023, it actually can be done every year. I will try to create another one with more ideas and hopefully an advent calendar post for adults too. Let’s start with this year’s options! What I look for in Toy Advent Calendars This is what I look for in Advent Calendars: (This post contains affiliate links. Thank you so much for supporting my research work.) What I got my kids last year and why I loved them Play-Doh Advent Calendar – Get it here I’ll start with the one I got for my 3-year-old last year and I must say this Play-Doh Calendar is a brilliant calendar. It has a tool or cutter every day and a small tub of Play-Doh for each day too. It truly was worth the money […]

]]>My 5-year-old has been super interested in board games and I have been trying to get him some that are easy for him to play and fun for me to want to play too. Here are some of the best board games and card games for 2-5 year olds that we’ve been playing lately. I like having a variety of games that can practise different skills: learning to lose, being fast, paying attention to details, maths skills (as simple as counting or as hard as spatial awareness), identifying different objects, memory development, colour learning, and of course, being fun for everyone. I try to focus on showing items that we already own and have tested but sometimes make a little exception on items I want to get but haven’t yet had the chance. All links to Amazon are affiliate links (the price doesn’t change for you, but I get a really small fee from Amazon for doing some “advertising” for their products). Happy Chickens (2+) – Get it here This was one of the first board games that we got, and it’s still a big favourite. What I love about this game is that you can start playing with them […]

]]>So, I’ve gotta be honest. I was very on time with my 2023 Toy Advent Calendars for kids that are worth it post and then a pretty-nasty-flu-or-COVID-type-thing hit me and I derailed on my programmed posts. So, here I am on the last day of November trying to create I promised in a semi-sort-of-non-timely fashion. If you get to this post because you’re looking for a last-minute idea (because you’ve only now thought that you might want to do something special for your kids) I’m here for you! And here’s the best thing about DIY toy advent calendars: you can figure it out as you go. Here are some ideas that I think are great ideas for a DIY Advent Calendar. Christmas and Winter Books Advent Calendar I am not a big fan of ready-made book advent calendars. The reason being the books that come in the packages are way too small. So what I did last year is: I went to a bookshop and some charity shops, sourced enough Christmas and Winter storybooks to make 24 in total (I already had a few books on the theme), emptied my kid’s bookshelf and every day I took one book out […]

]]>Please find this year’s updated blog post below 2024 Best Advent Calendars for kids this Christmas Some of the links on this post aren’t working anymore, therefore, please click on the link above for the updated options for this year. I love a good advent calendar and I find that a toy calendar for kids is a great way to spread the joy of Christmas throughout the month instead of just focusing on a day. So here are the ones that I think are worth it I love a Chocolate Advent Calendar, but when I was looking for an alternative when I wasn’t yet giving chocolate to my kids, I stumbled upon toy advent calendars. And even though I now give them the chocolate ones, it has become a tradition in my house that I really love The offering now is bigger and I’m quite picky on what calendar I get them because it needs to be worth the money. It cannot just be a calendar with a theme they like, it needs to be that AND it needs to be things that will be played with over time. So here are my findings for this year a my opinion […]

]]>As you can tell from my The art of long drives with kids: my top tips post, I have been travelling long distances by car with the kids fairly often since my eldest was 3 months old. 24-hour drives from London to Lisbon mean a lot of hours in a car going slightly mad at times. So having the right entertainment for my kids helps me feel a little less stressed pre-trip. I also like to make sure they have entertainment that will keep them interested and focused for as much time as possible, following their current interests, and that don’t get lost in the car every 3 seconds. well, until there’s a need for (endless) toilet stops. Or they need to run in the “wild” for 5 minutes. Or we are desperate for coffee and sweets (that we obviously hide from them or only eat when they’re asleep). I tried to group kids together by several ages in the same group, but to be honest, they’re such different little creatures, with major different capacities and needs that I can’t. So I’ve made a top 5 list per age from 0-5 year olds. And because we’ve travelled with the kids […]
